Wow! It's hard to believe we've come to the end of the Spring term. The sun has shone and we've had a school full of Waunarlwydd learning and laughter! Last week saw our Castle banquets in Years 1, 2 and 3. It was a pleasure to see families and children coming together, enjoying themselves and sharing learning journeys. The children thoroughly enjoyed and we hope all the adults did too! We look forward to more school community events during the summer term.
Our Year 6 pupils set off on their residential adventure last week. They did themselves proud with their positive attitudes, stepping out of their comfort zones and showing great resilience to take on all the challenges. Most importantly, they had a superb time together! A big thank you to Ms Williams, Mrs Price and Miss Field for giving up their time to allow this wonderful experience to happen. Well done everyone!
On Wednesday we welcomed Matt Crome and his team from Parklands Church to run a day of Easter workshops for the children. The time and effort that went into preparing such varied and fun activities is much appreciated! The children had a great day! Diolch pawb!
Children and staff have been working together to plan our Summer theme of 'We can be Heroes'. We can't wait to bring all the wonderful ideas to life and look forward to a super Summer Term involving the whole school community. After-school activity clubs will resume straight after half-term. You should have received consent forms. Please be sure your child wants to attend before signing them up.
Attendance remains a major priority for the local authority and Welsh Government. Our whole school attendance stands at 91.9% for the academic year so far. While the Education Welfare Service have commented positively on the progress of many individuals, there remain concerns! Your continued support of attendance is crucial. Please make contact if you have any concerns.
Following a rigorous process, I am pleased to announce that Ms Williams has been appointed as our permanent Deputy Headteacher. Having held the role of Acting Deputy Headteacher for 5 terms, I have no doubt that Ms Williams will play a pivotal role in the strategic direction of Waunarlwydd Primary School for years to come.
I'm sure you'll all join us in giving Miss Fender our very best wishes as she begins her maternity leave. We'd like to welcome Mr Price to the Waunarlwydd teaching team as he covers Miss Fender's maternity leave!
As mentioned previously, our very own Mrs Cornish is taking part in the London Marathon on April 27th. Good luck Mrs C!
Finally, we'd like to wish all our amazing children and families a very happy and healthy Easter break!
Remember, this is 'OUR SCHOOL' and, as always, if you have any queries, concerns or ideas, don’t hesitate in making contact!
Have a wonderful Easter break! See you on Monday April 28th!
Diolch pawb!
